About Spectrum
Spectrum is owned by Charter Communications. It is the second biggest cable company in the United States and serves customers in more than 40 states. Spectrum sells internet, cable TV, home phone, and mobile plans.
If you used to be a Time Warner Cable or Bright House customer, you are with Spectrum now. Charter bought both companies in 2016 and moved everyone over to the Spectrum name.
Spectrum Mobile works a little differently. It runs on the Verizon network, so when Verizon has a problem, Spectrum Mobile customers feel it too.
One thing surprises a lot of people:
Homes in the same area all connect through the same box on the street, called a node. If that node fails, only those homes go down. That is why your internet can be dead while your neighbor two streets away is using the internet.
What Causes a Spectrum Outage?
Almost every Spectrum outage comes down to one of these six things.
Bad Weather
Storms, strong wind, ice, and lightning damage the lines outside and cut power to Spectrum's equipment.
Planned Maintenance
Spectrum upgrades its equipment late at night in many areas. Service can drop for a short time while crews work.
Cut Fiber Lines
Construction crews sometimes dig through buried cables. When that happens, a whole city can lose service until the line is repaired.
Broken Equipment
If the box that serves your street fails, every home connected to it goes down at the same moment.
Power Cuts
Spectrum's street equipment needs electricity. If the power goes out nearby, your internet can go down even when your own house still has power.
Your Own Equipment
Sometimes nothing is wrong with Spectrum at all. An old modem, a loose cable behind the TV, or a router that needs a restart can look exactly like an outage.
How This Outage Tracker Works
Where Our Data Comes From
Every report on this page comes from a visitor who is having trouble with Spectrum. We do not get any data from Spectrum, and we cannot see inside their systems. The counts, the map, and the city list are all built from what users tell us.
How We Decide it is an Outage
A few reports come in every hour of the day. That is normal. What we watch for is a jump. When reports from one area suddenly rise well above the usual level, we mark it as a likely outage.
We Do Not Work for Spectrum
This is an independent site. We are not owned by Spectrum or Charter Communications, and they do not endorse us. The Spectrum name and logo belong to Charter Communications. For anything about your account, your bill, or a technician visit, you need to contact Spectrum directly.
Note: This method has one limit worth knowing. In a small town, fewer people report problems, so a real outage there may only show a handful of reports.
What Should I Do if Spectrum Internet is Down?
When your Spectrum internet or TV is down without warning, the first job is to confirm if the problem is inside your home or part of a wider outage. Check the live report count above. If people near you are reporting the same thing, it is an outage and you have to wait it out. If nobody is reporting, then try these troubleshooting steps.
Check Modem Lights
Look at the front of your modem. A solid blue light on the Online symbol means the signal is reaching your home. A blinking or red light means it is not, and the problem is on Spectrum's side of the line.
Check Cable Connections
Make sure the coax cable is screwed in tight at the wall and at the back of the modem. A loose connector is one of the most common causes of a dead connection, and it takes ten seconds to check.
Reboot Power Cycle
Unplug the power cable from your modem and router. Wait 60 seconds, then plug them back in. Give the modem 2 to 5 minutes to fully reconnect. This fixes a large share of problems on its own.
Test with Mobile Data
Turn off Wi-Fi on your phone and try loading a page using mobile data. If that works, the problem is your home connection, not the wider internet.
Submit Community Report
Click "Help Your Neighbor" to record your outage. Your report is anonymous and appears on the live map, so people in your city and ZIP code can see whether the problem is spreading.
When Should I Call Spectrum?
After applying the troubleshooting steps, wait for at least 30 minutes. If your service is still not coming, and also no outage reports are submitted by other people from your area, it’s time to call.
Call Spectrum at 833-949-0036 or open the My Spectrum app. You should ask them 2 questions. First, is there a known problem in your area? Second, can they check the signal coming to your address? If they say everything looks fine on their side, ask them to send a technician.

Check the live report count above. If reports are spiking well above the normal level, Spectrum is likely having an outage. If only a few reports have come in, it is more likely a small local problem, not a service wide outage. The counter updates automatically, and you can click the refresh button any time you want the latest stats.
Check the “Most Affected Areas” list above. If it mentions your city, there is an active outage in your area. If your city is not listed, use the ZIP code lookup page and enter your ZIP code to check outages in your area, because small towns will not always appear in the top list.
If you do not find any reports for your city, the problem is local to your home. Try the troubleshooting steps or call Spectrum at 833-949-0036.
This usually means the issue is at your end or limited to your street. It can be a node failure that affects only a few homes. A loose coax cable or an old or overheating modem can also cause the problem. Unplug your modem for 60 seconds, plug it back in, then wait a few minutes to see if it reconnects.
If the issue still persists, call Spectrum customer support at 833-949-0036 and ask them to check your line.
Yes, you can get a bill credit for a Spectrum outage but, you have to talk to Spectrum customer support. Spectrum does not add credits on its own.
To get credit for your outage, write down the time when your service went out and also when it came back. The agent will ask both questions when you talk about the outage credit. Credits usually cover only the time you had no service.
To report a Spectrum outage, click on the “Report Outage” button in the navigation menu or click the “Help Your Neighbor” button to report an outage in your area. Reports are anonymous and take just a few seconds.
Your report will be publicly visible to other Spectrum users, because it appears on the live map.
Most outages are fixed within 1 to 4 hours. City wide outages are caused by fiber cuts or equipment failure and usually take 4 to 24 hours to resolve. After storms or major infrastructure damage, repairs can take up to 48 hours. These times are approximate, so call Spectrum to stay updated.
